Elliott Erwitt in Austin
Icons of Photography No. 3 -- September 24th & 25th, 7pm

The Austin Center for Photography is excited to host Elliot Erwitt for our third Icons of Photography lecture. Elliott, a true icon of filmmaking, commercial and fine-art photography, will give two separate but identical presentations at the Blanton Museum of Art Auditorium on Thursday and Friday evenings.

A producer of numerous  films and television programs,  Elliott has actively worked for magazine, industrial, and advertising clients since beginning his career in 1949. He is well known for the many fine art photography books and exhibitions he has created over his career.

Eliiott, pictured in his NYC studio office (right), is known for the humor and irony of his photographs.  His most memorable, perhaps, is his beloved series of dogs and their owners (an example above).

Following each lecture, there will be a a chance to meet the photographer during a poster and book signing event.  Light snacks and cash bar will be offered during this time. Exclusive posters and numerous book titles including his just published Elliott Erwitt's Rome and The Art of Andre S. Solidor will be on sale at the museum bookstore.

We at ACP are deeply honored to be able to bring Elliott to Austin.

Slideluck Potshow Austin II
Submissions Accepted Beginning September 1st

November 21st is the confirmed date for the return of last year's smash hit. This year's Slideluck Potshow Austin II (SLPS) will be part of  E.A.S.T., the popular East Austin studio tour event.

ACP is an official co-sponsor again this year.

Slideluck Potshow? We are talking about a slide show and we are talking about a potluck dinner.

Slideluck Potshow is a New York City-based, non-profit arts organization that provides an opportunity for artists and arts-appreciators to gather around food, friends, and artwork for an unforgettable night. This event, which began in a Seattle backyard eight years ago and regularly draws crowds of a thousand people in NYC, returns to Austin for the second year. Last year's event drew 400+ attendees.

The 2009 East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.) is a nine day event, spanning two weekends. This year's tour will take place from Saturday, November 14th through Sunday, November 22nd. The focus of E.A.S.T. will remain on artist studios in east Austin which will be open during the two weekends November 14th - 15th and November 21st - 22nd.

E.A.S.T. will also include three other elements: exhibition spaces like art galleries and theater performance venues, happenings coordinated specifically for E.A.S.T. and programs such as: Slideluck Potshow Austin II, workshops, lectures, and panel discussions. These other components will take place throughout the nine days of the tour.
